For the Books (Writeonshell Pty Ltd) ABN: 21 682 400 139 | BAS Agent Registration No. 26286304 Last updated: June 2025
We’re bookkeepers, not lawyers — so we’ve written this policy in plain English. That said, it covers everything it needs to, and we take it seriously.
Who we are
For the Books (trading name of Writeonshell Pty Ltd) is a registered BAS agent and CPA practice providing bookkeeping, BAS agent, and business advisory services to small and medium businesses across Australia. We operate remotely and are based in Morayfield, Queensland.
We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal and financial information responsibly, transparently, and in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
As a registered tax practitioner, we also have obligations under the Tax Agent Services Act 2009 (TASA) that govern how we collect, use, and protect client information. Our privacy practices are designed to meet both sets of obligations.
What information we collect
From website visitors, we may collect: your name, business name, email address, phone number, geographic location, and IP address — typically when you contact us, book a meeting, or subscribe to our mailing list.
From clients, we collect the personal and financial information necessary to provide our services. This includes business financial records, bank statements, payroll data, ABN and tax file numbers, and other information required to meet your compliance obligations. We collect only what we need to do the job properly — nothing more.
We do not collect credit card or bank account numbers directly. Payment processing is handled securely by Ignition or Stripe, and we never see or store your full payment details.
Our services are not directed at anyone under 18. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a minor, we will delete it promptly.
How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Deliver bookkeeping, BAS agent, and advisory services to you
- Communicate with you about your engagement and any compliance matters
- Meet our obligations under TASA, the APPs, and other applicable legislation
- Send you updates, resources, or offers — but only if you’ve opted in (and you can opt out any time)
- Improve how we work and the services we provide
We do not use your personal or financial information for marketing purposes without your consent. We do not sell, trade, or share your data with third parties for their own marketing purposes. Ever.
Marketing communications
Our email list is strictly opt-in. If you’ve subscribed, you’ll hear from us occasionally with useful content, updates, and the odd resource we think is worth sharing. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and we’ll action opt-out requests immediately.
If you’re a client, we may contact you about your services, compliance deadlines, or relevant changes — this is part of what you’ve engaged us to do and is not marketing.
How we store and protect your information
We take data security seriously. Your information is stored on secure, cloud-based systems with role-based access controls, two-factor authentication, and strong password management. Staff and contractors only access client data to the extent required for their role.
Our primary platforms include Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Xero, Dext, Karbon, and XPM. Each of these providers maintains their own security and privacy standards, which we review as part of our annual privacy audit.
We retain client records for a minimum of five years from the date of your last engagement or transaction, in line with our obligations under TASA. After that period, records are securely deleted or archived with restricted access.
In the event of a data breach that is likely to result in serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) promptly and in accordance with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.
Overseas disclosure
To deliver our services, some work may be performed by trusted offshore team members. Currently, this includes team members based in India. We may also engage offshore support from other countries (including the Philippines) as our team grows.
Any overseas team members are bound by confidentiality agreements, subject to our internal quality management procedures, and required to handle your data in accordance with our privacy standards. We take reasonable steps to ensure offshore recipients of your personal information provide protections comparable to the APPs.
Cookies and website tracking
Our website uses cookies — small files placed in your browser that help the site function and allow us to understand how visitors use it. Cookies do not access personal data stored on your device.
We use standard WordPress cookies for site functionality. We may also use analytics tools (such as Google Analytics) to understand website traffic in aggregated, anonymised form. We do not currently run paid advertising campaigns, so advertising cookies or pixels are not intentionally in use — however, if you want to see exactly what’s running on your browser when you visit our site, tools like cookieyes.com or your browser’s developer tools can show you.
You can disable cookies in your browser settings at any time, though this may affect how some parts of the site work.
Third-party links
Our website may contain links to external sites — the ATO, Xero, Dext, and others. We’re not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites and encourage you to read their policies separately. A link from our site is not an endorsement of their privacy practices.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of your personal information at any time. To do so, just contact us at info@forthebooks.com.au and we’ll respond within 48 hours.
If you believe we’ve handled your information incorrectly, you’re welcome to raise it with us directly first — we’d genuinely prefer the chance to fix it. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can contact the OAIC at oaic.gov.au.
Changes to this policy
We review this policy annually (every July) as part of our Quality Management System review. If we make material changes, we’ll update the date at the top of this page. The current version always lives at forthebooks.com.au/privacy-policy.
